With little or no effort you can make your own home remedies for your hot flash symptoms. An added benefit: You are in control of the ingredients and know what you are taking!
Just follow some of these great recipes and suggestions. If your menopause symptoms are mild to moderate, these recipies may be all you need to find relief.

When we entered the menopause transition we felt so much out of control and helpless, that just brewing a cup of sage tea made us feel that we had some control over our symptoms. Plus is really helped and was delicious.
Then we found out how easy and fun it is to make tinctures and we are certain you will like it too.
So here are the recipies for home remedies for hot flashes, part I. (There are a total of three articles). Use them as a guideline and come up with your own personal hot flash remedy.
Sage (Salvia officialis) is a very beneficial herb with many active compounds. Sage has anti-perspiration (antihydrotic) and phytoestrogen compounds wich are very valuable for night sweats. So brew yourself a cup of sage tea as an easy home remedy for hot flashes and night sweats, especially before going to sleep.
Sarsaparilla (Smilax regelii), one of the ingredients in original root beer, can be made into a tea for hot flashes. Sarsaparilla contains several phytochemicals (natural precursors to testosterone and estrogens) and antioxidants. It also has weak anti-viral properties and is often used as a skin conditioner. (You can use the tea as a skin poultice). You can get Sarsaparilla root, root powder or extract.
The reference we found recommends 1-4 grams of the dried root per 8 oz. of hot water, seeped for 10 minutes and then filtered.
Mix Sage and Peppermint for a Cooling Tea - one of my favorite home remedies for hot flashes.
Because I grow these herbs in my garden, I always have a good supply on hand. I just use about one teaspoon of the dried and crushed herb mixture (I usually use a 1:1 ratio) for one cup of water. Sometimes I add a couple of chamomille blossoms, just for fun.
(When you grow mint in your garden, make sure it is in a pot. Mint wants to take over your yard!)
Mix equal parts of dried Lemon Balm, Red Glover, Passionflower and Sage to treat menopause symptoms. These herbs are all extremely useful on their own but together they create a powerful and tasty tea.
Use 1 teaspoon for each cup of tea. You can also make your own home-made teabags with small tea-filters from specialty kitchen stores (or order online from Teavana). They are also great as a gift!
For a nice calming tea use Lemon Balm, Chamomile, Hops and Passionflower. Drink a cup of tea made from 2 teaspoons for the mixed herbs before bedtime for a good night's sleep. Some women find the hops too bitter in a tea and you can always make it into a tincture.
